Training Made for You
STOP TRAINING LIKE A BODYBUILDER
Most traditional gyms have been constructed with the bodybuilder regimen in mind. But how many of us are training for a bodybuilder competition? Gym culture and mainstream media have lead us to believe that fitness is about having the biggest muscles and looking the most shredded. How many real athletes do you know that look like a bodybuilder? Basketball players like Kobe, soccer superstars like Ronaldo, UFC champions like Khabib, olympic sprinters, and many other professional athletes look nothing like a bodybuilder. Why? Because bodybuilding does not translate into functional performance. We live in a self-obsessed society of aesthetics, and the mainstream fitness industry is no different.
CALISTHENICS: TRAIN TO MOVE BETTER AND LIVE BETTER
How can calisthenics help you? First let me explain what calisthenics is. Calisthenics has been around forever. The Ancient Greek Spartans, the military, professional athletes, physical therapists, gymnasts, and coaches everywhere utilize calisthenics. Calisthenics is commonly referred to as bodyweight training. It utilizes compound movements to accomplish the basic movement patterns of squatting, pushing, and pulling. These bodyweight exercises can be regressed or progressed depending on your ability to perform the exercise.
Because of the compound nature of the exercise, it concurrently trains the nervous and connective tissue along with the muscular, resulting in not just increased muscular strength, but also improved joint health and increased mobility. Compound exercises, as opposed to isolated machine exercises, also burn more calories as a result of the involvement of so many more muscle groups. Because these exercises focus on fundamental movement patterns and have a high level of neuromuscular integration, you can expect to see improvements in sports performance, actives of daily living, and more. Through a comprehensive training plan that includes periodization, stretching and mobility, calisthenics can help you to move better.
NO GYM. NO PROBLEM.
I advocate for home and outdoor fitness. One of the first things we will do is establish a location that is convenient and best suited for your fitness needs. Who says you can’t roll out of bed and start training in your bedroom? Who says you can’t simply go to your local park, take in the fresh air, enjoy the outdoors while you train? Although a gym may have its benefits, unless you plan on becoming a competitive body builder, then working out at home or the park with minimal to no equipment is the smarter way to go for most people.
My Story
My name is Davood. Having been raised here in the San Fernando Valley I spent a lot of my youth at the park, playing sports, and being active. It wasn’t until after high school I began a serious endeavor into staying fit. I found my passion in body weight training, also more commonly referred to as calisthenics. After 10 years of training, making mistakes, figuring out what works, enduring injuries, experiencing highs and lows, I can now perform feats of strength only known to a few: freestanding handstand push ups, gymnastic level lever holds, planche push ups, muscle ups, and more. After getting my B.S. degree in Physiology from UCLA I decided to use my accumulated knowledge and expertise to become a personal trainer. I hold a Certified Personal Trainer certificate from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), I am licensed and working as an EMT in the state of CA, and I am constantly pursuing literature and training to better help my clients.
